COVID-19 responses, human rights and the cultural context of Global South

Abstract

Controlling COVID-19 led to universal restrictive measures (lockdowns, quarantines, travel restrictions) worldwide. This paper finds that universal guidelines challenged existing human rights norms and disproportionately affected lower-middle and poor classes in the Global South due to distinct local socio-cultural, religious, and economic realities.
